Come join me for an energetic flow class where sweat and hypnosis collide in a fun and light, yet deep and profound experience that's guaranteed to be indescribably delicious! I know, I know. You think you can't be hypnotized. It's a common misconception. Hypnosis is natural. You're in hypnosis every day, multiple times. It starts 30 minutes before you fall asleep. Or when you're lost in thought, and miss your freeway exit. You're in it when your popcorn goes flying during the zombie attack scene (organic popcorn, olive oil only, of course).
Do you dream of going on a retreat? I know I do! How often do you actually give back to yourself for all your hard work and commitments? I think we all deserve to treat ourselves. I'm excited to splurge a little and take time for some much needed rest, renewal, and refocusing. Tulum sounds like the exotic low-key escape that I've been dreaming of. It is described that in Tulum, luxury and earthiness coexist, but the coin of the realm is spirituality. What a perfect paradise for a yoga retreat!
As the month of November is known for giving thanks, it can also be the time to re-adjust our attitude for more gratitude, and to recognize what is abundant in our lives to have empathy towards those who have nothing. On November 23, we will be hosting 'Hatha For Hunger'--a yoga charity event to raise awareness and donations for 'No Kid Hungry', a nationwide organization driven to help fight childhood hunger in the United States. As many as 16 million children (that's 1 out of 5 kids) struggle with undernourishment and inaccessibility to healthy meals, which in turn, affects their overall academic performance and growth into healthy, happy adults. This event will present a showcase of yoga classes throughout the day, with a variety of yin (restorative) and power flow classes to suit all of our participants' needs. In addition, there will be a live concert spun by DJ Tory for those seeking to enjoy an aural experience, with food/beverages available for purchase. Ready to give back? Click here to register: I want to help fight childhood hunger! With your participation and contributions, we can help our future generations reach their full potential. Through one yoga breath at a time, we can combine and share our strength to those in most need.
There are many different types of yoga out there and even at Purple Yoga, we will pull various lineages to create our unique class schedule. Now you will see a new program arrive at Purple Yoga! Yoga Therapy RX is a program designed for those of you that are dealing with health challenges--whether it's physical, mental or emotional. Yoga Therapy is the marriage between Western medicine and Eastern philosophy to empower the progression of overall health. Let's face it, not every yoga class is suitable for students with injuries of limitations.
This Saturday in Long Beach, I will be hosting Athlete Therapy Flow along with Dr. Grasmeyer. We listed 10 injuries in the workshop description and hope to provide insight to managing through yoga. Tomorrow, I will reach out to the students who have currently signed up and inquire about which items connect with them. This will provide Dr. Grasmeyer and me an overview of the class make-up. Class will begin with introductions and a 30-40 minute warm-up practice. Next, we will provide an open forum for participants to join discussions, demonstrations and practice.
Many years ago, I was invited to practice yoga with live music present. The instrument was a cello. During practice, I found my eyes tearing up while in half-pigeon pose. The feeling was new and unexpected, I quickly disengaged and shot the cellist a hollow look. After class, I made a decision to not go through personal practice with live music present. It was too much emotion... Since then, my personal practice has grown as well as my teaching. Many moments of reflection have come and I found myself more open to emotional releases.
Looking forward to returning to Purple Yoga on July 19th-21st! This time, I'll be back for an amazing action packed weekend of Holistic Yoga Flow.
Holistic Yoga Flow is a dynamic blend of power vinyasa, kirtan, ayurveda, philosophy, pranayama, meditation and diet/lifestyle. It is rooted within the ancient tradition of yoga but well adapted to our modern day, contemporary yoga scene.
Today, I weigh less than I did in high school at 170 pounds, living a raw vegan lifestyle and have never felt better. The first picture were all taken when I lived to eat instead of eating to live.
Instead of basing my meals on the size of the portion, I now base it in nutrients as a motivator to eat. Tough habits are hard to break, and believe me, I've had my fair share. Pancakes for breakfast every morning for years, chicken in excess, peanut butter in mass amounts and everything in between. It was what I knew and all I ever wanted to know, and if I shed a few pounds (from lack of sleep, mostly), I would pack in more food.
To be compassionate is to be conscious of distress and to have the desire to ease that pain, others or your own. Observe yourself throughout your day. How are you meeting and welcoming yourself in the situations that you encounter? Is there negative self-talk or negative beliefs? Are you a cheerleader or are you putting yourself down? Through this yoga month, meet yourself (in each situation, thought, and moment) with loving kindness. Notice when you experience distress, pain, and suffering; what is it accompanied with?
