Class Descriptions

Purple Yoga offers classes for all levels of students. Our goal is to help you realize your full potential whether you’re trying yoga for the first time or you’ve been practicing for years. The classes are physically challenging, so it's important to work at your own pace and be patient. Remember, progress comes with practice. Our classes include the vinyasa form, which integrates breath with movement. This dynamic flowing style is a powerful system that utilizes asana (postures), pranayama (breath), and meditation that will leave you feeling revitalized and relaxed.


Blue 60

Build your foundation in Blue. This set sequence includes classic poses with a slower pace. Teachers give detailed instructions on each pose to provide a better understanding of its key components. The first part of class includes longer-held standing and balancing poses; the second part includes seated and twisting poses.

Blue 70

Expand your practice in Blue 2.0—10 minutes longer than the Blue Series and incorporating more of a variety of poses.

Red 70

Challenge yourself in Red. This intense and energizing workout builds on the Blue Series and includes inversions and arm-balancing poses. This class is great for weight loss and will help improve strength, stamina, and flexibility. Be prepared to work hard, sweat, and have fun.

Red 80

Everything you love about our Red Series only this one is 80 minutes.

Green 70

Stretch and strengthen in Green. This demanding series of postures works the muscles, ligaments, and joints in a specific sequence, acting synergistically and cumulatively. No Sun Salutations, more Iyengar style than flow.

Integrated Spin Training

In conjunction with NASM’s (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Optimum Performance Training model, train with Ben Turrieta,  a certified trainer with NASM through his monthly Integrated Spin Training 4 week program.

  • Week One: STABILIZATION ENDURANCE  

    • Push yourself to stay focused in the workout for an extended period. In addition to endurance work, focus on stabilization, core muscle groups. abdominals, obliques, lower back, gluteus.

  • Week Two: STRENGTH ENDURANCE

    • 3 sets of “Super Sets”. The superset consists of a hill climb directly followed by sprint intervals with a 90 min recovery between each set. After the 3 “Super Sets” the client will be introduced to 2 real world cycling scenarios.

  • Week Three: POWER

    • This is the final step before taking the body to its maximum potential. During the power phase the client will increase the rate of force production. “Super Sets” will be utilized however prolonged periods of pushing distance will take place of the rest periods.

  • Week Four: Tour De Purple 40 MIN CHALLENGE  (last Friday of every month)

    • This will be the clients chance to compete with each other and put it all on the line. This will be a solo ride where the client will have 40 minutes to grab as many miles as they can. First place awards will be given to the Male and Female with the highest miles.

Clients that successfully complete all 4 weeks will receive a certificate of completion. This program will allow our competitive clients to look forward to that 4th week coming up. For new clients they will be encouraged in focusing on the goal completing the program and earning the certificate.


PURPLE 70

Take your practice to another level in Purple. Students are encouraged to use an intelligent and intuitive approach to find their unique expression of the postures. This class is lead with very little instruction, so intermediate and advanced students only.

Gentle Flow

A slower flow compared to our Blue, Red and Green series. A wonderful place for beginners to introduce themselves to a steady yoga practice and build a thorough foundation.

Restorative

Restore the mind and body in this gentle series. Class will incorporate the use of blocks and blankets and include a luxurious final relaxation.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation exploring various aspects of our existence, starting with the physical body then moving to more subtle layers as breath, feelings, and thoughts. We practice welcoming ourselves as we are while learning to stay at ease during the experiences. When we connect to our awareness, the unchanging part of us that is aware of our changing experiences, we get some distance to the thoughts and emotions and realize that they are not who we are, they don’t define us, they are temporary experiences that comes and goes. Practicing yoga nidra will show you that there is a part of you that is always well and at ease, no matter what comes and goes in our lives.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures (asanas) that are held for longer periods of time--2-5 minutes or longer per pose is typical. Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues--the tendons, fascia, and ligaments--with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.

Mindfulness Meditation

Franz guides you through mindfulness of breath, bodily sensations, thoughts, and emotions to ground the racing mind in the here and now and penetrate the nature of your precious human life. 

This class will help those new to mindfulness meditation establish a regular practice and learn the basics. Suitable for first-timers as well as more experienced meditators. Bring a cushion or whatever you need to sit upright for 45 minutes in comfort. 

This class is currently only offered in Long Beach.

Take your practice further using one of the largest tools available, yourself. In this self directed class, we provide an open space to allow you to practice what you want, how you want. Open Mat is designed to cater to your individual needs, with an instructor at hand available for guidance and assistance to help further advance your practice.
